Overview.
This 10 Days Uganda Rwanda Gorilla trekking, Maasai Mara & Serengeti safari offers the best of East African wilderness experiences. 4 countries in East Africa (Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya) will be explored and you will have a combination of encounters ranging from wildlife in the savannas and primates in the tropical forest-dominated protected areas. You will have the most of mountain gorilla adventure in Uganda and Rwanda, wildlife/big game viewing & wildebeest migration in Kenya and Tanzania.
The wildlife protected areas to visit include the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Serengeti National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Volcanoes National Park.
Safari in Details
Day one: Transfer to Bwindi National Park
You will be picked up by our company representative and you will have some briefing before setting off for southern Uganda to visit Bwindi national park. This park is perched on the extreme Southwestern Uganda and takes guests 8-10 hours to drive. En-route photography at the Equator crossing and lunch meals at the Igongo cultural center.
Day two: Trekking gorillas in Bwindi Forest
Assemble for briefing at trailheads of Bwindi –Ruhija, Buhoma, Rushaga or Nkuringo regions. These regions support the 21 gorilla families in Bwindi N/Park and include Mubare, Bitukura, Habinyanja, Rushegura, Mishaya, Mucunguzi, etc.
You will walk through the forest for 2-6 hours and settle for one hour for you to take pictures, observe how these special apes behave. Have time to enjoy lunch and wait till evening when you will go for the Batwa community.
Day three: Leave Bwindi for Volcanoes National Park
Drive via Katuna or Chanika border to Rwanda and proceed to Volcanoes National Park located in Ruhengeri. This is Rwanda’s 2nd largest park lying within the Ruhengeri region in the Northwest.
Day four: Gorilla trekking (2nd edition) & cultural tour
After an early morning breakfast, drive to Kinigi to meet the park officials who will brief you about rules on today’s gorilla trek. At 8:00 am, the park guides would have been allocated to all groups comprising of 8 visitors and you go trekking through the forest to observe the daily behaviors of mountain gorillas. On locating a family of volcanoes NP mountain gorillas, you will enjoy a close encounter with these apes for 1 hour then return to the lodge for lunch meal. In the evening, don’t miss to explore and experience the authentic Rwandan cultures, traditions and entertainment from locals in Iby’Iwacu village.
Day five: Travel to Kigali & fly to Nairobi
Leave Ruhengeri for Kigali a short distance drive taking about 2-3 hours. From Kigali, you may consider visiting Gisozi genocide memorial if time permits or drive direct to the airport to fly to Nairobi in Kenya.
Day six: Maasai Mara Reserve
About a half-day will be used for traveling from Nairobi to the spectacular Maasai Mara National Reserve in Narok County. Enjoy Kenya’s breathtaking views of the rift valley and surroundings and once you arrive at the reserve, settle for lunch in a lodge or camp. Later in the afternoon you may set off for a game drive or remain in the lodge to chill till the next day.
Day seven: Maasai Mara safari experience
Maasai Mara National Reserve allows to explore the wonders; the main highlights include observing the wildebeest migration and big 5 game. The wildebeest migration will be excellently enjoyed from July to October each year. If your main aim is to observe the river crossing, then you will drive to the Mara River after a bush lunch meal. Time permitting, you will also continue to the Maasai village to experience and explore their distinct traditions, cultures and cultural entertainment.
Day eight: Serengeti
You will leave the Masai Mara National Reserve for Serengeti N/P and this is a journey of approximately 8 hours’ drive through the Isebania border. Continue to the pre-booked accommodation inside Serengeti or adjacent to the park.
Day nine: Full day wildlife game drive & wildebeest migration –Serengeti
Serengeti N. Park is popular for its outstanding game viewing experiences and today, you will dedicate a full day to explore this slice of a paradise. Diversity of animals in the savanna grassland will be encountered including giraffes, cheetahs, leopards, cape buffaloes, antelopes and more.
Day 10: Drive to Arusha
Have breakfast and you will set off to Arusha city in Tanzania. Today marks the end of 10 Days Uganda Rwanda gorillas, Maasai Mara and Serengeti.
