Overview
The 14 days Uganda safari takes you to the most amazing places for a great experience, for example, visit Murchison fall national park the largest park in Uganda for the power full waterfalls, Lake Bunyonyi found in Kabale district which is the second deepest lake in Africa, Kibale forest national park – primate capital of the world due to its large number of primate species which are 13 in total.
The safari will also take you to Queen Elizabeth national park and get a chance to spot the rare tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector, Lake Mburo national park for the zebras and finally Bwindi Impenetrable national park for mountain gorillas.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at the airport
As soon as you arrive at the airport that is Entebbe international airport our safari driver guide will be there to welcome you and brief you about the safari. The guide will drive you to the agreed hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Depending on the time of arrival, before dinner time you can opt to have a short city tour or relax for tomorrow’s activity.
Day 2. Depart to Murchison Falls National Park
Murchison falls national park is the largest national park in Uganda located in the northern region in the northwest of Kampala the capital city of Uganda. Therefore, after an early breakfast, you will check out with the lodge and drive heading to Murchison. You will have a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary to trek rhinos before exceeding to the national park.
Ziwa sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where one can trek rhinos therefore, on the way to Murchison it must be our stopover to spot one of the big five animals in Uganda. Proceed and check in with the booked lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3. Game drive and boat cruise
You will wake up early morning for a delicious breakfast then meet your driver guide and set off for the morning game drive in Murchison fall national park. Ever since all park activities start at the park headquarters, you will first check there to be provided with a ranger guide who will be fully armed for security purposes and start immediately your drive, searching for wildlife that this national park harbors. Here, you have a high chance of spotting at least four or all of the big five animals in this park such as lions, buffalo, leopards, and giant elephants.
Not only the big five but also other animals can be spotted including beautiful birds while during this game drive. After retreating to the lodge for lunch and relax for a few minutes as you prepare for a boat cruise. The boat ride is always an interesting activity where you spot water creatures like hippos, and Nile crocodiles plus beautiful species of birds such as flamingos and so on. You can ride up to where you start the hike and continue to the top of the falls if willing then embark on your journey to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4. Transfer to Kibale national park; optional activity
On this day it will be a long day drive that will take you about 7 to 8 hours’ drive on 372 kilometers from Murchison falls national park to fort portal. For that matter, after your breakfast, you will start your journey to Kibale and the first stopover will be in Mubende to buy simple foods like roasted bananas, meat, cassava and many more. The next stop will be in fort portal as you have your lunch and stretch for the remaining short journey to Kibale forest national park and check in with the booked lodge.
Day 5. Chimpanzees trekking and crater lakes exploration
Chimpanzees are one of the primates that make Kibale forest national park to be the primate capital of the world. All activities in this park start at the Kanyanchu visitor’s center, therefore, for an early breakfast, you will probably drive to this point for a briefing. A ranger guide will lead you into the jungle in search of chimpanzees in about three to four hours depending on the location of the primates. After tracing these primates, enjoy how they groom each other, hunt if you get that chance, patrol, and copulate, mother, give care to infants and so on.
Retreat to the lodge for lunch and then drive to the Isunga cultural community for the afternoon activity. The site guide will welcome you and take you through a quick briefing about the walk then set off for the crater lakes exploration. You will have a great view of Kibale forest national park which is at the top of the world, with three crater lakes, mountain Rwenzori ranges and other interesting things while doing the walk. Embark on the Isunga cultural community offices and meet your driver guide to retreat to the lodge.
Day 6. Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park
On this day you will arise early morning from your bed, sunbathe, and check out with the lodge then embark on your journey to Queen Elizabeth national park the second largest park in Uganda. It will take about four hours to drive to this national park depending on your speed and as soon as you start entering the park you will be welcomed by the large herds of elephants, buffalo, warthog and many more. You will continue and check in with the lodge with an optional activity or relaxation.
Day 7. Game drive and launch cruise
On this day it will be a great day as you have your bush breakfast after spotting the early predators like leopards, and lions including a great sighting of antelopes at the center of Queen Elizabeth national park.
Don’t get surprised when you meet elephants eating alongside the road, some lions sleeping on the road and other wild animals including reptiles and beautiful bird species.
After this great adventure, you will retreat to the lodge for lunch. Drive to Kazinga channel for the best experience, boat cruise and channel with crocodiles on the water enjoying that great moment, spot other water animals like hippos and water birds like kingfishers, pelicans, fish eagles, herons and many others. Drive back to the lodge for dinner and stay for a night.
Day 8. Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi forest impenetrable national park is located a few kilometers about 159. 4 kilometers and it can take about 5 to 5 and a half hours to drive to get to Bwindi in the Northern sector. Before getting to Bwindi, you will have a stopover along the way for lunch then continue to check in with the booked lodge then relax. You can opt to do an evening birding around the lodge if you love birds as wait for a night.
Day 9. Gorilla trekking and cultural experience
Gorilla trekking is the most selling activity in Uganda in hand with chimpanzees. On your 9th day wake up early in the morning for the breakfast and meet your safari driver guide to set off to the park headquarters where all park activities start for briefing and grouping. You will meet a park ranger guide to take you through all that is needed thereafter move into the jungle in search of gorillas. Getting a chance to spot any gorilla family, see their social behaviors, how the mothers care for their infants and many others within three hours.
After a great experience, you will move back to the starting point to meet your safari driver guide and drive back to the lodge for lunch. After your delicious lunch drive and head for a cultural experience and interact with them, hear stories from elders and see how they used to live in the jungle in the food gathering, hunting and what they used to treat different diseases while in the jungle. Thereafter drive back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 10: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
On this day it will be a relaxation day after arising out of your bed and having breakfast, packing all your luggage and checking out with the lodge heading to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale district. Have a stopover in Kabale town for lunch and have a short city tour around then proceed with the journey to the booked hotel and relax
Day 11: Boat ride the whole day
On this day you will wake up early in the morning for the breakfast and drive to Lake Bunyonyi a lake of little birds for a whole day’s experience. The experience starts at 08:00am and it’s normally recommended for people above 6 years old. During this activity you will have a great view of the hills and mountains, the fish caught in this lake, interact with the Fishermen and many more interesting things while having this amazing adventure. You will have your lunch on the shores of the lake and after the activity, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 12: Transfer to Lake Mburo national park; optional activity
Wake up early in the morning for the breakfast and embark on your journey to Lake Mburo national park. Have a stopover in Mbarara city for lunch and after continue to check in with the booked lodge. You can opt to do an evening nature walk or bird just around the lodge while waiting for dinner time and preparing for the next activity.
Day 13. Whole day game drive
The game drive is an activity which becomes more interesting early morning and late evening when wildlife is rushing for breakfast and dinner respectively. Therefore, you will wake up early morning and drive with the help of the ranger guide and head for the drive, in search of early predators mostly the big predators like hyenas, leopards, and vultures. Not only these will be spotted but other animals like Zebras, Impalas, warthogs, bushbucks, red and blue duikers and more including birds and reptiles.
Enjoy bush breakfast together with lunch while feeling the greatness of the park. In the evening you drive back to the lodge while doing a simple drive as you take a chance to spot those that you might have missed during the day. Retreat to the lodge, shower and wait for dinner.
Day 14. Descend to Kampala and fly back home.
This day marks the end of your 14 days safari therefore after having your delicious breakfast accompanied by a cup of tea or coffee pick up all your belongings and check out with the lodge.
While heading to Kampala you will have a stopover at the Kayabwe equator in Masaka district to take photos, have lunch and also visit craft shops to buy some souvenirs to take home for remembrance. Proceed with the journey to Kampala the capital city of Uganda. Depending on the time of your flight, opt to have a short city tour and then fly back home.
