12 Days Uganda Safari

Overview

This 12 days Uganda safari will be the best as you are going to visit some of Uganda’s national parks and you will take part in various activities.  Some of the national parks which you will visit include Kibale National Park which is a home of chimpanzees and other 12 primate species making a total of 13 species of primates, do chimpanzee trekking in Kibale then drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park which is the most visited national Park in Uganda, named after the queen’s visit, take part both in game drives and boat cruises.

Explore Bwindi impenetrable national Park – home of mountain gorillas and then after trekking mountain gorillas, reach Lake Bunyonyi for a moment of relaxation as you visit some of its 19 islands your Safari will end with a city tour around Kampala.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the airport

On this day of arrival, you are going to meet the company representative immediately after you touch base in Uganda and they will welcome to take you through a briefing about how your 12 days Uganda safari will be spent. After that, he will drive you to the lodge of your booking.

Day 2: Head to Kibale National Park with a stopover in Fort Portal

Wake up in the morning have breakfast at the lodge then start on a long transfer from Kampala to Kibale National Park which is located in the western part of the country. The drive will take you 5-6 hours at a minimum speed and you will enjoy alot along the way including tea and banana plantations.

Have a stopover in Fort portal the tourist city of Uganda for a picnic lunch then have a short city tour around and look at the attractions that were looked at to call it a tourist city like the Amabere caves, after that continue with the drive to the lodge. Enjoy dinner later on.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking

Having had an early heavy breakfast in the morning, drive to the visitors centre which is Kanyanchu where trekking starts. While there, the briefing is always the first step and in the briefing, they will tell you the dos and don’ts while in the forest after you are going to join the other trekkers and then start on your search for chimpanzees.

Chimpanzees live in groups or families while in the forest and each group of chimpanzees trekked once a day by a group of 8 people only. Since chimpanzees are wild, one hour is given to each group of trekkers when found in the forest. Move back to the offices for debriefing then meet the driver and drive back to the lodge.

Day 4: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and evening game drive

Wake up to an early breakfast then check out from the lodge and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park the most visited national Park in Uganda. The journey to this Park will take you 2-3 hours and you will be enjoying seeing snow on Mt. Rwenzori if it’s a clear day, animals like elephants will welcome too.

Check-in at the lodge for some refreshments then head for an evening game drive in the park. The game drive normally takes place in the Kasenyi places and keep your eyes open enough to see animals like elephants, buffaloes, forest hogs, antelopes and some birds as well, don’t forget to take photos for memories.

Day 5: Morning boat cruise and game drive in Ishasha sector

Enjoy breakfast in the morning, leave the lodge for a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel and which is the one that connects Lake Edward in the southwest part of the park and Lake George in the North East. A lot will be looked at like hippos in their highest number as it is said to be hosting the highest number of hippos in the whole world, crocodiles will also be looked at, and elephants, buffaloes and other animals on the shores of the river will also be seen. Move back to the lodge and have lunch.

After enjoying lunch, head for a game drive in Ishasha where you have a chance of looking at the rare tree-climbing lions hanging out in the trees and their prey like antelopes. Move back to the lodge.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national Park

This day of transferring to Bwindi impenetrable national Park will begin with breakfast in the morning then after packing your luggage and checking out from the lodge and driving to Kisoro where this Park is situated. Bwindi is what mountain gorillas call home, hosting half of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world. As you approach Kisoro District, you will see the Highlands which are terraced by the farmers while carrying out farming.  Check-in at the lodge

Day 7: Mountain gorilla trekking

Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national Park starts very early in the morning with breakfast pack some lunch and enough drinking water and drive to the park headquarters for a briefing which will take about 30 minutes then you will be led to the forest to look for one of the habituated gorilla groups.

Mountain gorilla trekking takes almost the whole day and that’s why I advise you to carry packed yourself packed lunch which you will enjoy while in the forest. Remember that if you are having flu, cough and another infectious disease, you won’t take part in the activity.

When you find that one allocated gorilla group, you are going to be allowed to spend one hour in the presence of gorillas as you look at their behaviours. This one hour you spend with the mountain gorillas is worth a memory and that’s why you need a camera to take photos for memory. Trek back to the lodge

Day 8: Road trip to Lake Bunyonyi

Today, wake up in the morning have breakfast then drive to lake Bunyonyi the second deepest lake in Africa with 19 islands which makes it unique in the whole of Uganda.  It got its name from the small birds which are always present on the lake. You will spend here two days exploring its beauty.

Day 9-10: Explore Lake Bunyonyi and its surroundings

These two days are going to be spent here on lake Bunyonyi and you can take part in various activities like a boat cruise as you reach some islands like punishment island which was known as Akampene Island, Bwama, Bushara, Kyahugye and other islands. Take part in community tours and learn more about the Bakiga people who are very friendly.

Day 11: Drive back to Kampala and have a short city tour

On the eleventh day, have breakfast in the morning then check out and drive back to Kampala upon arrival, head for a short tour where you will visit religious places, historical sites, markets and local craft shop for some souvenirs to prove to your friends that you left in the home countries that you visited Uganda the Pearl of Africa. Drive back to the lodge.

Day 12: Departure

On the last day of your 12 days Uganda safari, starting with breakfast and then your driver guide will transfer and drop you at Entebbe airport for a flight back home.
