Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Safari to Akagera-about 2 and half hours’ drive from Kigali
Day one of your 3 days Akagera begins with breakfast and safari briefing from the guide before set off. As early as possible after briefing, proceed on your safari to Akagera National Park in the eastern province of Rwanda. Get to your lodge where you will have lunch and followed by an evening/afternoon game drive in the designated game tracks. In your pop-up safari vehicle, expect to enjoy excellent view of savanna dwellers of Akagera ranging from big game, antelopes like roan antelopes, giraffes, birds, warthogs, zebras and others. When you return, have dinner and night stay at one of the lodges booked.
Day 2: Game drive & Akagera launch cruise
After breakfast, be ready to immerse yourself once again into the savannas of Akagera for magical sight of wildlife species while on an early morning game drive. Preferably, you will be in a comfortable Land Cruiser or Safari Van with pop-up to ensure you have the best of your game viewing experience.
Among the numerous species of wildlife to see on Akagera safari range from impalas, lions, giraffes, elands, roan antelopes, elands, topis, buffaloes, rhinos, zebras, leopards, warthogs, duikers to birds. These can be explored and experienced during the 2-3 hours’ on morning game drive. After, make a return trip to any of the lodges you booked in Akagera to be served lunch and you relax a little.
The next activity to engage in during your Akagera tour is a boat cruise. This mainly gets you astonishing sights of hippos, crocodiles, aquatic birds and others while you are on a boat cruise along Lake Ihema for 2-3 hours.
Day 3: Depart from Akagera Rwanda-Kigali tour
After you have had a hefty breakfast, drive through Akagera while enjoying a short game drive. Proceed to Kigali, about 2 and half hours’ drive and it is in Kigali where city tour will be conducted. The Kigali city expedition is amazing on its own way as it is one way to get to one of the genocide sites preferably Kigali genocide centre, visit craft shops or any nearby historical site. Lunch after city expedition then drop off to the airport or hotel for you to chill and it marks the end of the 3 days Akagera.
