The 3 Days Nyiragongo offers every enthusiastic hiker/climber a lifetime opportunity to conquer the summits of the Nyiragongo Volcano, the world’s most active volcano. The world’s vastest Lava Lake lies right on the summits of Mt. Nyiragongo, one of the 8 Virunga Massifs and others include Mikeno, Karisimbi, Gahinga, Sabyinyo, Bisoke, Muhabura, and Nyamuragira.
Nyiragongo Volcano straddles within the lush forest-dominated Virunga National Park, Eastern D.R. Congo. This is one of the Africa’s oldest protected areas, created in 1925 and it is a recognized UNESCO Site. The park also supports variety of wildlife including the unique bongo antelopes, okapis, mountain gorillas, leopards, buffaloes, birds and others.

Day 1: Leave Kigali for Goma town
Set off from Kigali International Airport/hotel to Kigali genocide center in Gisozi and later proceed to other sites as part of your city tour. After, exit Kigali and head off for Goma involving border crossing at Goma.
Since your trip starts and ends in Kigali, you will be enjoying breathtaking views of Rwanda and the Congo. You should also have important documents, especially the yellow fever card and passport to allow you to cross to the D.R. Congo side.
Day 2: A hike to the summit of Mount. Nyiragongo & overnight stay
Wake up early and enjoy a hefty breakfast at the comfort of a hotel or lodge, then set off for Kibati patrol post for briefing. At around 9am, you will be leaving the briefing center to the top of the Nyiragongo volcano which is 4 to 5 hours’ trek. Nyiragongo lies at an elevation of 3470 meters and contains 2km Crater on its summits.
You have a long evening and night viewing the breathtakingly glowing Lava Lake, taking photos and later retire for the night.
Day 3: Descend down to Kibati station & drive to Kigali
Have last beats of the Lava Lake/crater views and then begin descending to Kibati. At the base of Nyiragongo Volcano, meet your driver guide who will take you back to Kigali. In Kigali, get dropped off at a hotel or airport for departure and marks the end of 3-tour to explore Nyiragongo Volcano.
