Overview
Welcome to this interesting safari which will take you to the home of endangered gorillas in Volcanoes national park through gorilla trekking, and then the savannahs with elephants, zebras, rhinos, towers of giraffes, lions, leopards, hippos and much more which will be in Akagera national park through game drive and hot air balloon tour.
If time allows, you will visit some of the unique attractions in Kigali such as the genocide memorial Centre, local markets and the art and gallery centers.
Detailed Itinerary
Day1. Transfer to Volcanoes national park
Be picked by the assigned safari driver guide who will take you through a quick briefing about this great African safari that lasts 4 days and 3 nights. You will encounter great scenery of different hills since you will be in a land of a thousand hills which is Rwanda. Volcanoes national park together with Virunga national park of Congo and Mgahinga national park of Uganda are the only national parks in the Virunga mountains where gorillas are located together with other creatures such as the golden monkeys, forest elephants, duikers, different bird species and much more.
Day2. Gorilla trekking experience
The gorilla trekking experience commences after a short briefing which includes crosschecking gorilla trekking permits, allocation of the park ranger guide, hiring some porters and many more. Be ready with enough drinking water and energy giving snacks, long-sleeved clothing with a colour that reflects the environment and much more. Begin the trek led by the armed park ranger guide and on this experience meet other creatures such as black and white colobus monkeys, golden monkeys if you are lucky enough, forest elephants and much more. On spotting a gorilla family visited, you will spend an hour with them and this will be an extraordinary opportunity to take memorable photos and record videos. After the experience, you have an option of taking a community tour to Ibyiwachu cultural village to learn about the Rwandese culture.
Day3. Transfer to Akagera National Park and evening game drive
Head to Akagera National Park the only savannah conservation area in Rwanda. This park is at the border of Tanzania and gets its name from the Akagera river which pours its water into Lake Victoria. On arrival, you will take a game drive where animals like the big five (Rhino, elephants, buffalos, lion and leopard), zebras, Masai giraffes, warthog, antelopes and many more won’t be missed. The game drive will last for 2 hours and then head straight to the lodge for checking in, refreshment, dinner and overnight stay.
Day4. Hot air ballooning tour and transfer back to Kigali fly home
Begin the day with breakfast early in the morning and then a short game drive to the point where the last experience of your tour will begin. Go through briefing and then board the basket to begin the adventure in the air. Spot animals for 2 hours having a great aerial view of the surrounding. The attractions will be endless scenery, lakes, animals like elephants, prides of lions, buffalos, rhinos and many more others. After the experience, you will be offered a glass of champagne or juice in case you don’t take alcohol. Later on be dropped at the airport after an optional activity of visiting city attractions like the Kigali genocide memorial grounds, Kimironko market and many others.
