3 days Nyungwe provides the best opportunity for you to explore and experience diversity of primates Rwanda and East Africa. Nyungwe Forest National Park is one of the best places to sight most of East Africa’s primates. On this short Nyungwe primate trip, your focus will be chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk.
This tour also includes Kigali city expedition plus Gisakura tea estates tour after your Nyungwe exploration, a home to 13 primate species. Extending up to 1000sq.kms, Nyungwe protects 500 chimpanzees, 310 bird species, distinct plants, colorful butterfly species and a lot more.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: City tour & safari to Nyungwe in Rwanda’s Southern Province.
Enjoy a delicious breakfast morning and later, meet your driver for Nyungwe tour briefing and transfer for Kigali city expedition. The city tour includes visiting Gisozi or Kigali genocide site, local markets within, craft shops and historical sites.
Afterwards, get lunch before you head to Nyungwe National Park, about 5-6 hours’ drive. Visit Butare museum, King’s Palace during your en-route trip and check into the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Nyungwe chimp tracking & canopy walk.
Breakfast early morning and after, get briefed on etiquettes to follow while on chimp trek at Uwinka Visitor Centre Nyungwe. At 8:00am, be ready to navigate through the jungles to search for chimpanzees, plus many other primates, flora, birds, butterflies during 2-4 hours of your chimp trek. Return to any of Nyungwe’s lodges you booked after in-depth learning about chimp behaviors and photo taking.
Have sometime to rest after lunch and meet the guide for canopy walk briefing. After, hit the suspended canopy walk trail that extends about 200m and your experience comes with exciting sight of birds, primates, forest’s canopy itself.
Day 3: Gisakura tea estates tour & departure.
Enjoy your breakfast and after, join others on farm tour in Gisakura Tea Estates. Here, the tour experience covers tea farming/cultivation, processing and packaging then you get back to Kigali, marking the end of your 3 days Nyungwe forest tour.
