4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda is intended for travelers who are eager to track mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park twice and involves trekking two different habituated gorilla groups. Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Pick-up from the Airport/Hotel for a City Tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park, in Musanze district.
Your safari driver/guide for the 4 days trip will pick you up from Kigali Airport or any other place in the City after a short briefing on the tour. Start this safari with a tour of Rwanda’s quiet and clean Capital City with visits to the former Presidential Palace, local markets and Caplaki Craft Village with a collection of unique crafts from across East Africa.
Start the drive to Volcanoes National Park after lunch at one of the City eateries and appreciate why Rwanda is referred as “the land of a thousand hills”. Arrive the incredible Volcanoes National Park in the late afternoon for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Trek to see the first habituated gorilla group and visit the gorilla guardian Village.
Arise to the sound of the jungles and have breakfast at your lodge before transferring to Kinigi park headquarters for briefing. This allows you to understand the guidelines and what to expect during gorilla trekking, then be allocated one of the 13 habituated gorilla groups based on your age, physical abilities and personal interests. Spend close to 6 hours in the jungles and this includes the trekking time and one hour in the presence of the mountain gorillas. Make sure to apply the guidelines/instructions provided during briefing while watching and taking photos of the mountain gorillas. After the wonderful time with mountain gorillas, start returning back to the lodge for lunch.
In the evening after relaxation be driven to the verdant and pristine borders of Volcanoes National Park to enjoy exhilarating cultural dances, local dishes, the local banana brew, visit the traditional medicine man and listen to the tales of Rwandan people at the Gorilla Guardian Village. Leave with a satisfaction that cannot be described in words and drive back to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Trek to see the second habituated gorilla group and boat ride on the Twin Lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo.
Have breakfast an go through the same process as the previous day, but this time involving a different gorilla group with different trekking experience, behavior, family dynamic and sometimes even trekking time.
After the trek and spending your valuable time with the gorilla group, proceed to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the evening, undertake a boat ride exploring the different Islands, bird species and wildlife species in the Twin Lakes – Ruhondo and Bulera. Leave the Twin Lakes with fresh memories of the attractions encountered and drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Journey back to Kigali.
After the hectic two days’ gorilla treks, you will need a long rest and wake up at will for breakfast at the Lodge. After your breakfast pack your luggage for a journey back to Kigali City where you will undertake a short city tour exploring the tourist sites that were missed during the previous tour. Have Lunch and be driven to the Airport or any other location in Kigali City.
