Overview
This 4 days lowland double gorilla trekking in the Democratic Republic of Congo takes you to Bukavu town in the Democratic Republic of Congo and visit its town for a short tour, you will visit two gorilla families though in different days and observe their social behaviors, characters and how mothers give care to the infants. Not only Gorillas but other wildlife can be found too which makes your safari more colorful and amazing.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1. Puck up from Kigali and transfer to Bukavu
The safari driver guide will pick you up from the airport/ hotel and take you through a quick briefing about the safari and embark on your journey to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The drive takes you about 6 hours’ drive to Bukavu town depending on your speed. Continue and check in with the booked lodge for late lunch or dinner and stay for a night.
Day 2. Lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi-Biega national park
On this day after your delicious breakfast, it will be your first day of lowland gorillas trekking in Kahuzi-began national park which is the only place/ park that harbors these amazing great apes in Africa. Kahuzi-Biega national park is found in the Democratic Republic of Congo and all activities done here to start at the park headquarters. Therefore, this is where you will meet your park ranger guide will be fully armed for security purposes and head into the jungle in search of gorillas. Since this safari is a double gorilla trekking you will trek two different gorilla families on different days.
Getting to the gorilla group only one hour is given to be spent with them taking photos, observing their social behaviors, care given to the infants and many more. After retreating to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
Day 3. Second-day lowland gorilla trekking
On this day there’s no big difference from the last day of trekking though it’s another group trekking same behaviors will be observed like copulation, Grant to the alpha or the silverback, feeding habits and many more which are similar. After retreating to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. You can opt to do an evening nature walk or visit Bukavu town and interact with the people to see how their way of living.
Day 4. Depart to Kigali
After your delicious breakfast, your safari driver guide will drive back to Kigali and the drive can take about a 6-hours’ drive from the Bukavu Democratic Republic of Congo to Kigali Rwanda. Depending on the time of arrival and the time of the flight, you can a city tour around Rwanda and take a chance to visit the genocide memorial site or any craft shop and buy some souvenirs to take home.
