4 days Virunga gorillas & Lake Kivu boat cruise

Overview

Have great fun and adventure during this tour to Virunga national park where you will take part in gorilla trekking a great African experience of encountering the rare mountain gorillas in their natural habitat for an hour.

Another adventure will be to visit Lake Kivu one of the African Great lakes located on the border of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo and you will take a boat cruise experience. Another experience will be taking a short city tour in Kigali where places like the genocide memorial Centre, local markets like Kimironko, art and gallery centers and many more others are visited.

Detailed Itinerary

Day1. Transfer to Virunga national park from Kigali Rwanda

Begin your tour with a briefing by the assigned safari guide who will, later on, make a transfer to Virunga national park in Congo. The guide will help you with border crossing and acquiring travel documents. Virunga national park is among the 3 national parks that are located in the Virunga mountains home to the endangered mountain gorillas which are always visited through the gorilla trekking experience.

The safari guide will feed you with all information about this great park in Africa. The journey to this park is amazing and rewarding since the beautiful nature covered will hill and Valleys are all the time seen through your window. On arrival, you will enjoy the surrounding at the accommodation facility booked.

Day2. Gorilla trekking experience

Immediately head to the park offices for briefing after breakfast and this will be conducted by the park ranger guide. This important exercise of the briefing will help you to achieve a lot since it includes guidelines to follow while in the jungle such as don’t make noise, always keep a distance, don’t feed wild animals, don’t eat, smoke or drink anything in front of animals, you are not allowed to trek in case you cough or flue or any infectious disease and many more. The guide will take you into the jungle with other 7 trekkers and porters carrying extra luggage for the trekkers to begin the search.

On locating the gentle giants, spend an hour in their presence learning their behaviors and movements and taking photos. Notice that they are human cousins sharing 98% of blood DNA due to their behaviors being so close to us. After the overall experience which can even last for 8 hours, trek back to the lodge and this will mark the end of gorilla trekking day.

Day3. Visit lake Kivu and boat cruise

Head to Lake Kivu after morning breakfast and this will be another great adventure. Take a boat cruise on this lake, explore its beauty and the surrounding, take part in fishing and relax at the shores of the lake on the beautiful beaches. Spend a night at the resort hotel and this will be the end of the day.

Day4. Head back to Kigali, short city tour and drop off at the airport

Head back to Kigali city in Rwanda for your flight and before, take a short city tour where places like Kigali genocide memorial grounds, the art and gallery centres, and local markets like Kimironko won’t be missed. Buy some handmade crafts to be your souvenirs. Later on, head to the airport where you will be dropped and this will be the end of the 4 days Virunga gorillas & Lake Kivu boat cruise.
