5 days Rwanda gorillas and Akagera safari

Overview

Enjoy your 5 days safari to Rwanda which will provide you with unforgettable memories. It will take you to the amazing and only national park in Rwanda that provides you with a gorilla trekking experience and sees how these primates are unique and interesting. Most of the wild animals will be spotted including all the big five for example Lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, rhinos and others like Zebras and so on while in the Akagera national park. Other activities can be carried out while on this safari like nature walks, boat cruises and many more.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1. Pick up from Kigali, transfer to Akagera national park

As soon as you arrive at the airport, that Kigali our team will be there to welcome you as they provide with you a short briefing about the safari and drive to the nearest hotel for a cup of coffee or tea depending on your choice. Your driver guide will go with you after and head to Akagera national park. Be welcomed by large herds of animals as soon as you start entering the park and continue to check in with the booked lodge.

Day 2. Morning game drive and boat cruise

Akagera national park is the best place in Rwanda that provides unforgettable memories and amazing creatures while in this national park. Prepare and have your delicious breakfast as early as you can and meet your safari driver guide then head for the experience. Many wild animals will be spotted including all the big five such as elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo, Zebras and many more including different beautiful bird species. Retreat to the lodge for lunch after this activity.

In the afternoon, you will drive to Lake Ihema for a beautiful adventure, a boat ride and spot some water birds and water animals that would not have been spotted during the game drive. You retreat to the lodge after the experience for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3. Depart to Volcanoes national park, optional activity

Volcanoes national park is the only national park in the Northwestern parts of Rwanda that covers an area of 162 square kilometers. It is the only national park in Rwanda that harbors gorillas and offers gorilla trekking activities among the four recognized protected national parks in Rwanda. Therefore after breakfast, you will depart to this protected park for the great Gorilla experience.  Depending on the time of arrival, you can opt to do any simple activity or relax and prepare for gorilla trekking the next day.

Day 4. Gorilla trekking and evening nature walk

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is only done in volcanoes national park, therefore, depending on the lodge/hotel you used last night, you will wake up early in the morning for the breakfast and then depart to the park headquarters as early as possible to catch up with briefing and grouping

A park ranger guide will lead you into the jungle in search of gorillas. During this walk, you will also spot other primates not only gorillas like varvet monkeys and other monkey species harbored in this national park.

In the afternoon, after having your lunch your driver will drive to the community project office where you will meet a site guide who will lead you on a nature walk and take a chance to spot the missed primates. You will come across tall trees which are over 10 years and are still in existence, beautiful bird species, flowers and many more. After a retreat to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5. Retreat to Kigali

Mark the end of your safari on this great day as you wake up early morning and have your well-prepared breakfast and check out with the lodge. Embark on your journey back to Kigali and the arrival, have your lunch first followed by a short city tour if time allows also visit any craft shop and buy some souvenirs to take home for remembrance. After everything is done your safari driver guide will safely drop you at the airport and fly back home.
