Day 1: Depart Kigali for Nyungwe Forest N/Park
Day one will be for you to meet and greet our company representative in Kigali capital city. He or she will brief you about your trip, a special moment you shouldn’t miss before the start of your road trip.
Head towards the Southern Province of Rwanda with en-route visit at Butare to visit the National Museum or Nyanza King’s palace, then you will connect to one of the restaurants to enjoy a delicious lunch meal. From Butare, you will proceed to check in at the lodge/Guesthouse inside or around Nyungwe Park.
Day 2: Start chimpanzee trekking (morning) & canopy walk in the afternoon
Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest NP introduces you deep into the natural forest to observe chimpanzees, explore how they behave and take pictures. Trekking with chimps in the Nyungwe natural forest takes about 2-4 hours and includes one hour for photo taking as well as observing their daily behaviors.
Lunch meals will be provided once you get back to the lodge and get some refreshments. After, canopy walk will be your afternoon experience and this will take you along the suspended canopy walk. It begins at Uwinka Reception Centre and comes with excellent views of primates, birds and magnificent forest canopy.
Day 3: Leave the Southern Province for Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri region
A delicious breakfast will be enjoyed in a guesthouse/lodge in Nyungwe and after, transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri region. En-route, Lake Kivu will be viewed clearly – Rwanda’s largest freshwater body and also partially lying on the Congo side.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes NP
Enjoy a tasty cup of tea/coffee grown in Rwandan soils and at 7:00am, assemble for a briefing about guidelines for gorilla trekking in Kinigi. The park has 12 habituated gorilla families and each will be tracked by a maximum of eight guests with the lead of an experienced guide. The trek through the Volcanoes NP forest will last for 2-6 hours and covers one for you to observe gorillas’ behaviors, body gestures and taking pictures.
After observing gorillas for one hour, you will walk back and enjoy lunch. In the evening, experience Rwanda’s cultures and traditions on a cultural tour in Iby’Iwacu village.
Day 5: Golden monkey tracking & a road trip to Kigali
After breakfast, you will transfer to Kinigi to be briefed about golden monkey tracking guidelines. This will be a short day golden monkey trek taking between 2 and 4 hours inclusive of one hour for photo taking. You will return and have lunch, then check out and later drive back to Kigali.
