Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda through the incredible Kigali International Airport and road trip to Akagera National Park.

We begin our 8 days Rwanda Safari by driving to Akagera National Park, situated within the Eastern side of Rwanda. The journey lasts anywhere between 2½ and 3 hours and on arrival be served Lunch.

This is followed by a boat ride on Lake Ihema to sight the extraordinary aquatic wildlife species such as Crocodiles and Hippos in addition to bird species such as the shoebill storks, Papyrus gonolek, African fish eagles, Kingfishers, herons, yellow-billed storks, pelicans and grey-crowned cranes among others. Return back to the Lodge with a game drive and relax, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Half day tour of Akagera National Park and transfer back to Kigali City.

Have an early breakfast and start off with the game drive where you will spot Masai giraffes, elephants, Rhinos, spotted hyenas, warthogs, buffaloes, Topis, lions, Kobs, leopards and many others converged around water points as well as numerous bird species such as the Grey-crowned cranes, Egyptian goose and cattle egrets among others. Return back to the Lodge for Lunch and later set off for Kigali City where dinner and overnight will be at the booked Hotel.

Day 3: Road transfer from Kigali City to Volcanoes National Park

Be served breakfast at the Hotel and embark on a City tour to explore one of the Genocide Memorial Site to listen to tales of pain during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, the Presidential Palace Museum-former residence of President Juvenal Habyarimana whose assassination led to the start of the genocide and many others. Embark on the transfer to Musanze district and to a Lodge in the outskirts of Volcanoes National Park

Day 4: Trekking mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park and tour of the Gorilla Guardian Village.

Every day of this safari comes with different expectations but this day will hold memories to cherish for a lifetime. Start the day with a hefty breakfast and be transferred to the Park Headquarters for registration followed by briefing on the guidelines to follow. Later set out with the armed ranger and tour guide to search for the mountain gorillas in the jungles. The time taken to trek and find the mountain gorillas can take as little as 30 minutes as well as up to 6 hours.

Everyone that has trekked before will agree that it is an exciting walk along densely forested slopes, bamboo stands, intertwined vines and thickets prior to finally encountering the mountain gorillas. As you trek, your guide will provide information on encountered residents of the Park and even point out signs of previous Mountain gorilla activity through broken and chewed Bamboo stands, fecal matter and nests, but once spotted, you will be allotted one hour with them.

After one hour of endless photography and observation of gorilla daily activities, retire to the Lodge for Lunch and in the evening undertake another exciting activity. Visit the Gorilla Guardian Village where you will get immersed into culture and traditions of Rwandese through tales of past events, traditional dance performances, visits to traditional herbalist and many others. Later retire to the Lodge with fresh memories of the thrilling activities for dinner under the stars as well as overnight stay.

Day 5: Adventurous trek for Golden Monkeys and drive to Kibuye Town.

Another day in the jungle to see the playful golden monkeys and begins with breakfast then transfer to the Park Headquarters. Be briefed on the rules and regulations of trekking and watching them before heading out to track them in the Bamboo forest. These treks are shorter and last about 1-3 hours only and one hour is the time to spend with the golden monkeys once spotted.

Get back to the lodge for lunch as well as short relaxation before embarking on the transfer to Kibuye Town, on the pristine shores of Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight will also be here.

Day 6: Leisure at Lake Kivu and drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Breakfast and head out for the Lake Kivu expedition. The shores as well as serene waters of Lake Kivu are ideal spots for unwinding after the strenuous Gorilla treks, volcano hiking and golden monkey adventures. Relaxing here allows you to rebuild your energy and go on with your other planned activities.

Take a boat ride to explore its verdant Islands or take guided walks along the shores then transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Day 7: Trekking for chimpanzees and Canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Have an early breakfast and report at Uwinka Visitor Center for briefing on Chimpanzee tracking guidelines. Later begin the life-changing trek for mankind’s closest relatives and spend one hour with them once spotted. After the chimpanzee trek, enjoy your packed Lunch or be driven back to the Lodge for Lunch.

In the afternoon return to Uwinka Visitor Center for another briefing and information on the 2-hour forest canopy walk. The Canopy walk is a 160-long walkway suspended 50 meters above the forest floor, between huge trees and pass through deep valleys and offers views of different tree species, birds, butterflies and playful monkeys. Return for dinner and overnight stay at the same Lodge as the previous day.

Day 8: Guided forest walk and return back to Kigali City.

Breakfast and walk through one of the 13 hiking trails where numerous species of primates, birds, butterflies, trees and natural features-especially waterfalls will be common. Have lunch at the lodge and return back to Kigali City.
