The Nyiragongo Package is one of the exceptional Nyiragongo Volcano climbing packages allowing visitors to reach the hot lava summits of this Virunga Mountain. This is a 2-day stand-alone Nyiragongo Hike starting from Goma Town, 17 kilometers from Virunga National Park (in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo) and ends in the same Town.
For this Nyiragongo Package, you will hike one of the most active Volcanoes in the World (with altitude of 3470 meters) and is said to have erupted over 34 times since 1882, recent one being on May 22, 2021.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Pick-up from Goma Town and ascending Nyiragongo Volcano.
Visitors are required to be at Grande Barriere Border Crossing by as early as 7:00am for check-in with the Virunga Tourism Office by 8:00am. This is definitely on the day of starting the Nyiragongo Volcano hike. Virunga Tourism Office is strategically found within the Grande Barriere Border building, near the passport Control Office. It is from the Virunga Tourism Office that visitors will receive the Volcano trekking permit and must be presented at the briefing point before starting the climb/hike.
After receiving the hiking permit, drive from Grande Barriere Border crossing to Virunga National Park, then to Kibati Ranger Post at the base of Nyiragongo Volcano. Be briefed and start ascending at 10:00am with the team of climbers, porters and other climbers. Reach the summit of the Volcano by 5:00pm and camp near the Crater.
Day 2: Descending Nyiragongo Volcano and drive back to Goma Town. End of tour.
Enjoy breakfast and begin descending the Nyiragongo Volcano at 6:00am to Kibati Ranger Post. On getting to bottom of the Mountain, interact with your team of climbers who share their experience of climbing the mountain, take photos and even tip them. Later meet your safari driver for a drive back to Goma Town then drop-off at Grande Barriere Border crossing. This marks the end of our Nyiragongo package.
