21 Days Grand Uganda Safari

Our 21 days Uganda safari package involves exploring the best safari destinations within Uganda. This 3 weeks’ safari involves visiting Murchison falls, Bwindi Impenetrable, Kibale Forest, Lake Mburo, Rwenzori Mountains, Mount. Elgon and Kidepo Valley National Park to participate in thrilling tourist activities such as Mountain gorilla trekking, game drives, chimpanzee tracking, boat rides, cultural tours, birding adventures, mountain hiking, guided walks and many others.

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival in the country.

Upon your arrival at Entebbe international Airport (the main gateway into the Pearl of Africa), you will meet and greet the driver/guide for your 21 days Uganda Safari. He will first brief you on the safari and destinations to be visited and later drive you to a Hotel in Kampala to settle-in and freshen-up.

However depending on the time of arrival, you will wither go on a tour around top historical and cultural sites in Kampala city. After the city of this vibrant city, head back to the Hotel for delicious dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Road transfer to Lake Mburo National Park in Kiruhura district, western Uganda.

You will be enjoy a sumptuous breakfast and embark on a journey to western Uganda where the spectacular Lake Mburo National Park is found. The journey takes about 3-4 hours with your first stopover at the Equator crossing at Kayabwe and here you will take photos, enjoy snacks, coffee and experiment some of the Equator demonstrations. From the Equator you will go on with the scenic drive to the park arriving in time for lunch.

After lunch be driven to the shores of Lake Mburo for the afternoon boat ride that will bring you close to schools of hippos, basks of Nile crocodiles and several bird species such as the shoebill storks, African fish eagle, grey-crowned cranes, pelicans, Kingfishers, Black Crake and Cormorants among other bird species that call this Park home. Retire from this breathtaking activity and get back to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Guided nature walks and afternoon game drive through the stunning savannah landscapes.

Wake up for breakfast after, undertake a guided walk around the salt licks and other remarkable parts of Lake Mburo National Park where a wide range of animals-impalas, Defassa waterbucks, common elands, buffaloes and Topis among others. Also explore the varying animal habitats during the nature walk.

Lunch will be at the Lodge and is followed by an afternoon game drive to discover flora and fauna within the spectacular savannah grassland landscape, dotted with rolling hills and marked huge Kopje rocks as well as ancient Precambrian rocks. Here you will see herds of Defassa waterbucks, Burchell’s Zebra, common elands, warthogs, Rothschild Giraffes, impala, buffaloes, Oribis, to mention but a few.

Day 4: Drive to Lake Bunyonyi, the second deepest lake in Africa.

After breakfast, check-out of the Lodge then hop-into the vehicle for a drive to Lake Bunyonyi the second deepest lake in Africa. This Lake is about 4 hours’ drive from Lake Mburo National Park and during your drive transverse through the lush countryside landscape of south western Uganda.

You will be there in the afternoon for relaxation and Lunch then head for a boat ride to explore the lake’s beautiful Islands, then retreat for dinner and overnight at the booked Lodge.

Day 5: Zip-line cable crossing and drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Have breakfast and head for the adventurous zip-line Cable crossing through the calm waters of Africa’s second-deepest lake. Later undertake guided walks through its pristine shores, after which return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, will be driven to Mgahinga gorilla National Park where you will reach in the late evening for relaxation followed by dinner and overnight.

Day 6: The thrilling trek for Golden Monkeys and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Have breakfast and meet your driver for a drive to the Park headquarters for short briefing on golden monkeys and the process of tracking. The briefing is done by a park ranger guide, then move to the trailhead for begin the activity.

Tracking time for golden monkeys is unpredictable but past experiences show that it takes 1-3 hours of searching through the forest for them and once sighted, you are strictly allowed one hour with them while taking photography as well as observing their extraordinary behaviors. Retreat from the golden monkey tracking adventure to the lodge for lunch followed by a transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Day 7: Life-changing Mountain gorilla trek within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Be up early for breakfast and assemble at the Park Headquarters for registration and also to receive short briefings about the guidelines to be followed while trekking or when with the Giant Apes. After the briefing, set deep into the jungles following the ranger guide to search for the mountain gorillas and this can take from half an hour to 5 hours so a reasonable level of physical fitness is needed as well as appropriate trekking gear like strong hiking boots, walking stick, and gardening gloves.

Once found, choose to sit, stand or squat (Make sure to be at least 7meters from the mountain gorillas) and watch or take photographs of them grumbling to each other, playing, foraging and mothers nursing their babies. The one hour in their presence is really a breathtaking moment. After this thrilling activity, get back to the lodge for late lunch and in the evening head for a guided village walk.

Day 8: Drive from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Queen Elizabeth National via Ishasha sector.

On this day you will be driven to Queen Elizabeth National Park, a medley of wonders and transverse through the magnificent Ishasha sector to undertake an en-route game drive. If lucky you will see the tree climbing lions relaxing on the fig trees or tree branches along with other wild game such as Topis, Uganda Kobs, buffaloes, Defassa waterbucks, elephants and many others.  After this exceptional wildlife encounter, continue to your Lodge for Lunch, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Memorable game drive through the Kasenyi area and boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel.

Wake up early for a cup of tea or coffee and continue to the Kasenyi area for a game drive to catch-up with early risers such as lions, serval cats, spotted hyenas, jackals, leopards and mongoose before returning to their hideouts. Other animals to expect during this 3 – 4 hours’ activity are elephants, Defassa waterbucks, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs and Oribis after which you return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.

After the amazing lunch, embark on a 2 hours launch cruise along the Kazinga channel where you will have an opportunity to view wildlife up-close such as schools of hippos, and Crocodiles just a few meters away from the boat. You will also see elephants, buffaloes and Uganda Kobs lingering within the shallow banks of the Kazinga Channel.

The banks and the surrounding wetlands are also haven to various species of birds such as the pink-backed pelicans, African fish eagles, pied and malachite kingfishers, shoebill storks, saddle billed stork and may others, after drive slowly back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Undertake Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura Gorge.

Breakfast and be driven to Kyambura Gorge where you will immediately attend a short briefing from the Park warden about the dos and don’ts while with the chimpanzees. At 8am follow behind the ranger guide who will take you through the deep underground forest to find mankind’s closest relatives (chimpanzees) that are interesting to watch as they play in fruitful trees or tree blanches, rest, groom and rest in their natural habitat.

Tracking may go from 1-3 hours since finding them depends on where they slept the previous night and once spotted, a maximum of one hour is allowed to stay with them. After the Chimpanzee trek through Kyambura Gorge and get back to the lodge for Lunch. In the evening undertake a guided walk through Maramagambo forest then proceed to Kasese Town on the slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Mount. Rwenzori Hike and in the afternoon transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.

On this day you will be hiking the jaw-dropping and magical Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the mountains of the moon standing at 5,109m above sea level with snow-capped peaks.

You will explore this Mountain through one of the many hiking trails with views of the snow-capped peaks, waterfalls, glacier lakes, mammals (such as elephants, buffaloes and duikers), three-horned chameleons, bird species especially the Rwenzori batis among others. Enjoy your Lunch after this exciting activity then transfer to Kibale forest National Park via Rwimi for dinner, relaxation and overnight.

Day 12: Chimpanzee tracking through the lush Kibale Forest and wetland walk.

Report to Kanyanchu Visitor Center after breakfast for briefing about chimpanzee tracking and 8:00am start the walk through the forest for the Great Apes that are closely related to humans. Tracking time is unpredictable but can last anywhere between half an hour and 3 hours and once they are seen, you are strictly allowed to spend one hour for observation and photography.

After the mandatory one hour, retire back to the lodge for lunch and later a guided walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary to search for the primate species as well as birds that live in the Wetland such as the green-breasted pitta, Papyrus gonolek, Abyssinian ground thrush, Blue kingfisher, Great blue Turaco, the Brown-chested Alethe, Blue-throated Roller and Crowned eagles among others.

Day 13: Leave Kibale Forest National Park for Hoima Town.

Embark on a drive to Hoima after breakfast and transverse through the beautiful town of Fort Portal. Be there in time for lunch after-which you drive to Karuzika Royal Palace, Nyamyarro Royal Museum, Mparo Royal Tombs Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and if time allows the Katasiiha Cave to explore the historical and cultural background of Bunyoro Kingdom. Get back to the Lodge for relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 14: Continue to Murchison falls National Park.

Have breakfast at the Hotel in Hoima and continue to Murchison Falls National Park while traversing the remarkable en-route sites such as the Albertine rift, Lake Albert and the far-flung Blue Mountains of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Several en-route stops will be made, such as at Kibiro Salt Gardens and hot springs to learn about the traditional means of salt extraction and how the locals use native knowledge to derive one of the finest salts you can ever have. Continue to Murchison falls National Park through Bugungu gate, for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 15: Game drives through the vast savannah grasslands, afternoon boat cruise and hike to top of the falls.

Delicious breakfast at the Lodge is followed by a game drive through the northern plains of this Park to catch-up with the wide variety of wildlife species. Expected are Lions, Jackson’s hartebeests, elephants, Oribis, Cape buffaloes, leopards, bushbucks, Masai giraffes, warthogs, and a variety of bird species.

Return for Lunch at the Lodge and later the two hours’ launch cruise on the Nile River up to the bottom of the Murchison falls for more opportunity to view numerous species of wildlife like schools of hippos, Nile crocodiles and aquatic bird species along the river banks and lucky visitors will see shoebill storks. Drive back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 16: Road trip to Kidepo Valley National Park.

After a hefty breakfast at the lodge overlooking the Nile River, pack your bags and embark on the road trip to Kidepo Valley National Park in the extreme North-eastern corner of Uganda.

The remote National Park covers an area of 1442 square kilometers and is perched in a natural systematic dry savannah overlooking the border of South Sudan and Kenya. For this 5 hours’ journey, you will pass through Gulu and Kitgum Towns, one of which you will have a stopover for Lunch and reach in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 17: Undertake a game drive through Narus Valley and evening Karamojong village visit.

Early morning breakfast in Kidepo Valley National Park wilderness then embark on a game drive through the sweeping plains of the Park. Conduct a game drive through the Narus valley (oasis of the Park) where most of the animals converge to drink water and graze on luxuriant grass.

Wildlife species to expect here are Klipspringers, Caracals, Oribis, lions, Uganda Kobs, elephants, Cape buffaloes, Oryx, spotted hyenas, Defassa waterbucks, striped hyenas, warthogs, Rothschild giraffes, Kirk’s Dik-dik, Cheetahs, common elands, Greater kudu, serval cats, warthogs and many other wildlife species in addition to the Somali Ostriches. After this amazing game drive, retreat back to the lodge for relaxation and have lunch.

In the afternoon head for an informative community walk to the Karamojong pastoralist communities with visits to their Manyatta, home steads, Kraals and be entertained in their thrilling cultural songs and dances. Later in the evening return back at the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 18: Hike the stunning Mount. Morungole occupied by IK People.

This is your second day of Kidepo Valley National Park exploration, only that you will be hiking the Morungole Mountains, where the unique IK people live. These people are believed to be the original inhabitants of the Karamojong area before being forced to the mountains by the arrival of the pastoralist groups to the area.

Not only will you interact with them but also be rewarded with remarkable views of the sweeping Karamoja plains and the far-flung south-Sudan Mountains. After this hike, be driven back to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 19: Drive to the Sipi falls area through Pian – Upe Wildlife Reserve.

Enjoy your breakfast and start your journey to the magnificent Sipi falls area in the eastern part of Uganda. However you will make a stop at the popular Pian – Upe Wildlife Reserve for a short game drive that will reward you the opportunity of seeing other unique wildlife species such as cheetahs, Serval cats, Jackals, Cape buffalo, Civets, striped and Spotted hyenas, Leopards, African Wildcats, black and white colobus monkeys, Patas monkeys, Olive baboons, elephants, Uganda Kobs, vervet monkeys, Impalas, Defassa waterbucks, Topi, common elands and many others.

After the game drive, continue with your drive to Sipi Area for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 20: Hike the spectacular Sipi falls and drive to Jinja Town, the adventure Capital of East Africa.

Rise and shine, have breakfast before undertake the hike to Sipi falls. The invigorating hike is rewarding with breathtaking views of magnificent waterfalls as well as the beautiful landscapes including the verdant coffee and banana plantations of the Bagisu.

After the hike, begin your drive to Jinja Town where you will arrive in the evening to check-in at the booked Hotel/Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 21: Bungee jumping or Whitewater rafting and drive back to Kampala.

Breakfast at the Hotel or Lodge and head to the Nile River for adventurous experience of this mighty River through Bungee jumping or white water rafting to the bottom of the Nile, Rafting the rapids of Nile River is considered one of the best in the world and after your chosen activity, get back to the lodge for lunch and the later embark on the 2-3 hours’ journey to Kampala. Drop-off at Entebbe International Airport or any location in Kampala City and this marks the end of your 21 days Uganda Safari.
