3 Days Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Tour

A 3 days tour to Mgahinga gorilla national park is a fruitful vacation that takes you to Uganda’s most diverse and primate – rich destination. It harbors two of the most sought after primates, mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.

In this short tour, you will not enjoy gorilla trekking adventure, but also explore the neighboring Batwa communities and a rewarding forest walk in this vast park.

Detailed tour.

Day 1: Pickup from Entebbe/Kampala to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Leave your hotel in Kampala in the morning and depart for Mgahinga Park, comfortably perched in Kisoro district, at the base of Gahinga and Sabyinyo extinct volcanoes. Drive through Mpigi and Mbarara districts where you will make subsequent stopovers for photography at the equator monument and lunch respectively.

The drive will proceed through the undulating terraced Kigezi highlands, until you get to Kisoro district – the home of Mgahinga Gorilla Park. Check in at your booked lodge for evening relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 2: Explore Mgahinga Gorilla National park – Gorilla trekking adventure and Batwa community tours.

Have breakfast and drive to Ntebeko visitor center for an early morning briefing session. During this session, park rangers will explain to you the rules and guidelines you ought to abide by before, during and after trekking these amazing creatures.

The adventure lasts between 2-8 hours, depending on the location and daily movements of these primates. While trekking, you may be rewarded with sightings of other forest residents, ranging from beautiful birds, mammals and lush flora.

After meeting a family of habituated mountain gorillas, you will be excited to take a few pictures as well as spending a little more time with them as you learn about their unique traits, behaviors, appearance and history as explained by a ranger guide.

Return after 1 hour of one-on-one encounter with magical gorillas and descend back to the starting point, join your driver who will transfer you to the lodge for late lunch and relaxation.

In the evening, go for a community guided walk to the Batwa pygmies neighboring the national park. These people have occupied the most remote places of Mgahinga for centuries and they still hold it dearly to their ancestry story. Enjoy their vibrant and energetic dances and educative traditional songs.

Return to your hotel after this excursion for evening leisure and overnight stay.

Day 3: Return to Kampala.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you prepare for a return drive to Kampala. Enroute you will visit the equator monument as your last chance to take memorable photos and purchasing some African artifacts and souvenirs.

Continue to Entebbe / Kampala, either at your hotel for relaxation or to the airport to catch your departure flight.
