Overview
Have a great and short tour of Uganda’s smallest national park Mgahinga national park located in the southwestern part of the pearl of Africa. There are two main activities that you will take part gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking. These experiences each offer you an opportunity to spend an hour in the presence of the primate visited.
Other activities that will be conducted are the Batwa culture trail and a stopover at the point where the equator crosses Uganda in Kayabwe. These rare primates are amazing since they are close relatives of human beings and you will notice that most of their behaviours are almost of the human being.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga national park
Head to Mgahinga National Park on a normal drive a journey that will last for 7 to 8 hours with unique stopovers such as one at the Uganda equator in Kayabwe. At this point, you will take photos, and perform an experiment that will show the north pole and south pole.
Another stopover will be in Mbarara at Igongo cultural centre where you will taste local dishes like Matoke, Eshabwe and many more. Proceed through the rolling hills and terraced landscape of Kigezi highlands which will create everlasting and epic moments.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa trail adventure
Begin the adventure of gorilla trekking with a briefing at the park offices immediately after breakfast and this will offer you guidelines to follow while on the trek. Crosschecking of gorilla permits, all the required knowledge about gorillas will be given to you, allocation of the group of 8 clients to trek with and many more.
Penetrate into the forest with guidance of a park ranger guide to search and spend an hour in the presence of the gorilla family trekked. After the experience, trek back to the lodge with lunch and then encounter the Batwa cultural trail.
This experience is conducted by the Twa guide under the supervision of the park ranger guide on the premises of the park. The experience is all about taking you into the footsteps of the Batwa who used to stay in the forest. Explore the caves where the Batwa used to stay, the hunting tactics, the fruits and roots the Batwa used to feed on, the herbal medicines and much more. After the experience, you will head back to the lodge.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Kigali
Have breakfast and take part in the briefing which will cover different aspects such as the gorilla trekking rules and regulations which don’t differ from those of gorilla trekking only that here, flash light cameras are highly encouraged since the golden monkeys tend to draw closer. You will spend an hour in their presence.
After, transfer to Kigali with enroute lunch in any of the towns where you can also buy some souvenirs in form of handmade crafts. Proceed to Kigali and be dropped at the airport to mark the end of a 3 days Mgahinga gorillas and golden monkeys trekking tour.
